Bringing DISC to Life at Bradford College

Back in November 2023, I ran a DISC workshop at Bradford College with one clear goal – to help people understand themselves and each other better. I wanted it to be practical, engaging and, most of all, useful. So I brought along something unexpected: LEGO.

The workshop was designed as a two-hour interactive session, tailored specifically for the college’s Professional and Higher Education teams. We used LEGO as a hands-on way to explore DISC personality profiles, a creative route into what can sometimes feel like a dry topic. The bricks helped bring the learning to life, sparking conversations, laughter, and reflection.

We focused on how to communicate more effectively in diverse teams. By looking at the team’s DISC profiles, we could identify natural strengths and where things might get a bit stuck. What stood out most were the ‘aha’ moments – the points where people recognised patterns in their own behaviour or saw their colleagues in a new light.

The session wasn’t about theory for theory’s sake. It was about building self-awareness and walking away with something practical to apply. Feedback from the group showed they appreciated this approach – understanding their blind spots, noticing others’ preferred ways of working, and feeling more connected as a team.

Here’s what Furkan Uddin, Head of Professional and HE at Bradford College, had to say:

Having shared my need and ambition on what I would like my teams to achieve, Joanna designed a bespoke programme using DISC profiling and coaching and made it easy to understand. Joanna’s insights are valuable and supported with relatable examples. Both sessions (online and face-to-face) were interactive and thought-provoking. Feedback from my teams was really positive as participants felt they were able to understand their blind spot better whilst appreciating others’ preferred styles. A great experience led by an outstanding instructor – thank you!”

A big thanks to Furkan and the team at Bradford College for embracing the process and bringing such energy to the room.
