How to take great selfies; smart phone with white blank screen with tripod

How to take great selfies!

I used to hate taking selfies. I would tell myself and others, “I’m not photogenic”. Now, I know that’s rubbish – that was just a belief that I had, a story I told myself. One course changed the way I view myself on camera. Read on to find out how I went from loathing to loving taking selfies!

For years, I would think, “Right, time for a selfie.” I’d try to look natural, feel awkward, then delete the photo straight after. I’d overthink everything – angle, lighting, background, and most of the time, I’d end up not sharing anything at all.

That’s not great when you run your own business and are your brand.

So, I did something about it. I signed up for the Slay Your Selfies course, run by Rosie Parsons, and it has completely changed the game for me.

Here’s what’s different now

  • I carry a tripod in my bag. Yes, really. It’s lightweight, folds down small and means I can grab a quick photo wherever I am.
  • I’ve learnt how to quickly edit images on my phone without faffing about for ages.
  • I know how to use lighting properly (no more weird shadows or overexposed faces).
  • I use the grid on my phone to get a better composition—it makes such a difference.
  • I see potential selfie spots everywhere now. I’ll be walking down the street thinking, “Ooh, that doorway would work well” or “That wall’s a great colour.”
  • I think about backgrounds and colours more than I ever thought I would.

Most importantly, I feel more confident and more me in photos.

I won’t pretend I feel completely natural while I’m taking them, I’m not suddenly a lifestyle influencer, but I don’t cringe at the idea anymore. I feel like I can show up online as myself, without overthinking it to death.

It’s a course that delivers

Slay Your Selfies is practical, easy to follow, and brilliant value for money. You don’t need fancy equipment or tech skills – just a phone and a bit of time to practise.

Rosie’s feedback is spot on. She gives honest, useful suggestions that help you improve without feeling judged. It’s like having a supportive friend in your pocket who actually knows what they’re talking about.

I believe in it so much, I became an affiliate

I only ever become an affiliate for something I’ve tried, tested and can 100% recommend. This is only the second one I’ve signed up for (the other being The Body Coach, where I’m an ambassador), because I genuinely believe it does what it says on the tin.

If you want to stop hiding from the camera and start showing up with confidence, I’d really encourage you to give it a go.

You can use my affiliate link here https://rosieparsons.samcart.com/referral/slay-your-selfies/hN2BDKwyDDrI56w7 and the code JOANNA25 to get £25 off the course (which is almost the price of your tripod!)

Let me know if you decide to do it—I’d love to see your before and after selfies too.
